Thomas F. Burke, MD, FACEP

Chief of the Division of Global Health and Human Rights in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital

Thomas F. Burke, MD is the Chief of the Division of Global Health and Human Rights at the Massachusetts General Hospital, in the Department of Emergency Medicine as well as a practicing emergency physician. He was the founding Director of the MGH Center for Global Health. Prior to the MGH, Dr. Burke was Associate Clinical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and a senior faculty member for the hospital's Division of International Health and Humanitarian Programs and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Burke is an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Harvard Center for African Studies.

Kris Joshi, Ph.D.

EVP and President, Network Solutions, at Change Healthcare

Kris is Executive Vice President and President, Network Solutions at Change Healthcare. Prior to joining Change Healthcare, Kris was global vice president for healthcare at Oracle Corporation′s Health Sciences Global Business Unit. He helped launch the health sciences business unit, and successfully led two acquisitions for Oracle in the life sciences space. Before joining Oracle, Kris served in senior strategy roles in IBM′s Global Sales and Distribution organization. Prior to that, Kris was with McKinsey and Co, where he served Fortune 500 clients on strategy issues.

Kris has had a long-standing personal commitment to help bridge the gap between the social and commercial worlds through entrepreneurship, innovation, and public-private partnerships. He has championed numerous initiatives aimed at leveraging technology to improve the quality, safety, and affordability of healthcare globally. Kris serves on the boards of the Personalized Medicine Coalition, and the eHealth Initiative, in Washington, DC, and the Vayu Global Health Foundation, in Boston. Kris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Caltech, and a Ph.D. in Physics from MIT.

Anita McGahan

Associate Dean, PhD Director, Professor and Rotman Chair in Management at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto

Anita M. McGahan is Associate Dean, PhD Director, Professor and Rotman Chair in Management at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She is cross appointed to the Munk School of Global Affairs; is a Senior Associate at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard University; and is Chief Economist at the Massachusetts General Hospital Division of Global Health and Human Rights. Her credits include two books and over 100 articles, case studies, notes and other published material on strategic issues of competitive advantage, industry evolution, and financial performance.

McGahan is currently pursuing a long-standing interest in global health and the inception of new industries. Her research deals specifically with interactions between the public and private sectors in the innovative promotion of prosperity for everyone. McGahan has been recognized as a master teacher for her dedication to the success of junior faculty and for her leadership in course development. A passionate advocate of liberal undergraduate education, McGahan has championed the reform of Business Schools.

J. Michael Tarello, MAI, ASA, MRA

Appraisal Manager, Vision Appraisal Technology

J. Michael Tarello, MAI, ASA, MRA has over 24 years of experience in management, marketing, software design and appraising. Michael is currently employed as an Appraisal Manager and has been with Vision Appraisal Technology for over 20 years in various management and marketing positions. Currently, Michael is involved with designing software models for the New York City Assessors Office with over 1.1 Million parcels and is the Project Lead for the software conversion of Henrico County, Va. He is also managing valuations projects throughout New England and oversees the firms court defense division. Michael previously worked as a Fee Appraiser, Real Estate Sales Person and as a Real Estate Builder.

Michael has a Bachelors Degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA, with a concentration in Information Systems, from Western New England College. He has earned a Real Estate Appraisal Designation from the Appraisal Institute (MAI), American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers (MRA). Michael is a Certified General Appraiser in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island. He is currently Vice President and a Board of Director for the Massachusetts Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. Michael has also served on the National Technology Committee of the Appraisal Institute and as a Regional Representative of District Four.

Jamie Higgins

Jamie Higgins is an organizational development and training professional with twenty-five years of experience working in leading-edge companies known for their exceptional people practices. Higgins is currently a member of the senior leadership team at Deloitte, a prominent international consulting firm and is responsible for managing the most extreme and challenging personnel crises within the firm. She has extensive experience in change management, and helping individuals and teams to achieve their growth and development goals, and has a proven track record within several companies.

Higgins has been a guest lecturer/teacher/facilitator at several universities, including the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Yale University’s Graduate School of Management, the Boston College Graduate School of Management, the Rotman University School of Management at the University of Toronto, and others. She has designed and delivered highly innovative management development programs for several prominent companies, which continue to be utilized over the course of many years, and enable participants to become more effective leaders. Higgins is involved with several not-for-profits, and is a board member of a charter school for inner-city children.
